What is USMLE STEP 2?
USMLE (the United States Medical Licensing Examinations) is a mandatory set of tests for medical students who are willing to work as a physician in the United States. Each test has a different structure, content outline, and grading.
USMLE Step 2 has two divisions called Clinical Knowledge (CK) and Clinical Skills (CS). Each division tests a different aspect of one’s knowledge. Hence, students prepare comprehensively to ensure success in these life-changing examinations.
At times, having access to the right resources can make a USMLE student’s life easier. Thus, reputable publishers, like KAPLAN, have articulated authentic and comprehensive USMLE Step 2 studying resources.
USMLE STEP 2 CS
Usually, medical students take the USMLE Step 2 CS examinations in their senior year. As mentioned earlier, attempting the examination is mandatory to practice being a physician in the United States. The Clinical Skills exam fee varies each year.
In this examination, the medical student has to deal with standardized patient encounters. In each encounter, the student has to find the patient’s medical history, conduct a physical examination, determine the diagnosis, and write a patient note based on deductions. Usually, students also have one telephone encounter in which the standardized patient conveys the complaint using a microphone. For each patient, the student has 15-minutes and a total of 10-minutes for the patient’s note.
The encounters are similar to Emergency Room visits and cover topics like surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, and obstetrics. Generally, students consider the topics covered quite diverse that also becomes a source of worry. However, KAPLAN USMLE STEP 2 CS notes cover every aspect in detail so that students stay prepared for every type of challenge.
There is no numeric grading system for the USMLE Step 2 CS. Students either get passed or failed based on these three areas:
1. Communication and Interpersonal Skills
2. Spoken English Proficiency
3. Integrated Clinical Encounter
USMLE STEP 2 CK
USMLE STEP 2 CK (Clinical Knowledge) tests a medical student’s conceptual and theoretical knowledge. The examination gets divided into eight 60-minutes blocks. A medical student has to attempt up to 40 questions in each block. There is also an allotment of 45-minutes of break time.
Similar to the USMLE Step 2 CS, students confuse the huge amount of questions with an undefined syllabus. However, USMLE Step 2 CK has a completely outlined syllabus content, such as:
Nervous System and Special Senses
In KAPLAN USMLE STEP 2 CK notes, you can find concise yet comprehensive information regarding all the outlined syllabus content.
